Home Page

UKEP represents independent egg producers and packer/retailers, supplying over 12% of the total national egg production, as well as breeders, home mixers, rearers and hatcheries. It is the national voice of the independent producer, whether cage, barn or free range, conventional or organic.
The Executive Committee consists of working farmers assisted by UKEP's own consultants in veterinary, technical and environmental health matters.
Established in 1972, it has been instrumental in influencing major decisions and developments in the egg industry.
UKEP publishes a periodic communication-'UKEP/LIB HOTWIRE', as and when needed, which acts as an intermediary organ for the promulgation of research findings to those in the industry who have no access to scientific journals. It is obtainable by e-mail, or post. This bulletin also keeps members fully up to date with new legislation affecting their businesses.
The market information given in the bulletin is recognised as an accurate picture of current market conditions and is used by leading farming and food publications as a reference. It also keeps members abreast of developing trends and outcomes of meetings with official bodies.
UKEP produces a range of promotional material and videos about eggs for use by producers and retailers as well as magazines. It's "Laid in Britain" assurance scheme has been well received and is now widely recognised as a leading food safety, hygiene and quality programme, backed by effective HACCP regulation and independent auditing.

UKEP acts as a pressure group and lobbies both UK and European parliaments and the European Commission. It is a member of the International Egg Commission.

Member's farms are always available for surveys and on-farm, commercially-based research into egg production and bird welfare.
